I worked closely with Sophie, head of the family department for almost 18 months on a complex familial matter involving marital and child issues which were often incredibly complex and challenging. Needless to say, throughout the whole process, Sophie was calm, reassuring and absolutely reassuring with both her advice and compassion toward the situation. Even during the most trying times, Sophie was able to use her wealth of experience and professionalism to help me and the situation; guiding and above all caring about the outcome. At times, the emotional support and direction was as valuable as the legal input - a balance that is worth its weight in gold.

Hi Claire My life turned upside down on 09 February 2023 upon receipt of a Notice of Enforcement from a debt collection agency, called JACOBS acting on behalf of DVLA demanding a sum of £673.73 by 6pm on 17 February 23! It was all to do with a car I sold privately after making a SORN declaration in November 2018 at our previous address. I duly completed the relevant section of V5, signed, dated and posted it to DVLA. Unbeknown to me, DVLA had not received it and as a result, Penalty Notices had been sent to an address in Powys we lived for less than a year in 2017 followed by summons resulting in successfully prosecuting me in my absence at Swansea Magistrates’ Court in 2022, awarding fines and costs against me! Frantic researches googling led me to the discovery of a Single Justice Procedure Notice with my name and the address in Powys, vehicle registration number as reference and my DOB. Further enquiries led me to finding out the case had landed in Llanelli Magistrates’ Court who advised me to make a Statutory Declaration in order to fix a date for the hearing. It was then scheduled for 10 March 23. It took its heavy toll on my health since. I also received tireless representations from our local MS, Mr.Adam Price to DVLA using his hotline email facility. However, today’s new developments outlined below could not have come at a better time! I cannot thank enough both Jonathan and you, Claire at Watkins & Gunn Solicitors in Newport for the soothing words of reassurance he gave me after Jonathan kindly reading through my email outlining the court case. Unlike other contacts I shared the awful mess I am in, Jonathan came across as an expert in DVLA prosecutions, informing me I had nothing to worry about. He patiently explained the only reason why I have to attend Court: my having made a Statutory Declaration to give evidence on oath when the Presiding Magistrate will simply dismiss the case. So confident he was to say I do not need a lawyer to represent me! Any other solicitor could have happily taken the case on, knowing he/she could easy charge legal fees from the client! Hence my own five star review about the very professional standards you uphold today ! 1 star for winning my case however.. Appalling service. They withhold documentation and then deny they have it and then will ignore every email you send. I'd given them the benefit of the doubt before leaving a review but nothing have been resolved. Do your research and find a reputable solicitor.

Absolute pleasure to deal with. On a complicated and delicate employment law case for my wife they were first class, allowing her time and space to fully explain her situation and then offering great advise that ultimately led to a very positive outcome.
