I recently had a consultation with Robert Syms regarding a dispute, and I can honestly say he made what felt like a very stressful situation much easier to manage. He was personable, approachable, and had a great sense of humour, which immediately put me at ease. Robert was also firm and clear in his advice, and I really appreciated how seen and understood he made me feel during our discussion. He combined professionalism and genuine empathy in a way that’s rare to find. I would highly recommend him and Caversham Solicitors to anyone who needs straightforward and reassuring guidance.
My initial enquiry was made via online chat, which was quickly followed up by an email asking for some more information. I was then offered an appointment for the next working day, and Robert made me feel very at ease while dealing with my issue. I arranged to sign some paperwork at the office, and my issue was resolved very quickly. Excellent service, highly recommended.
Robert was absolutely fantastic at helping us with our paperwork for our wedding abroad. He was very knowledgeable and personable and easy to work with. Would certainly use Robert and his firm again, he made it easy to understand and navigate around!
I worked with Robert Syms at Caversham Solicitors on a long-running neighbour dispute. Robert was extremely responsive and approachable, always taking the time to explain things clearly and make sure we understood our options. What stood out most was his balance of firmness and practicality. He was strong in protecting our rights and our property, yet also realistic in pointing out where the risks lay. His advice gave us confidence to move forward, even when dealing with very difficult and unreasonable people on the other side. Thanks to his guidance, we were able to achieve nearly everything we wanted before even needing to go to court, which saved us time, stress and cost. Throughout the process I felt we were in safe hands and that he genuinely had our best interests at heart. I would highly recommend Robert and Caversham Solicitors to anyone facing a similar dispute - his experience, professionalism and steady support made all the difference for us.
I regret that my late mother engaged Caversham Solicitors at all. After her passing, I instructed them further — something I now believe was a mistake. In my experience, communication was poor throughout. It was difficult to get clear, timely updates or explanations, and I found it hard to pin down what work was being done or when fees would be incurred. Important emails were occasionally sent outside of normal working hours, making coordination even more challenging. There were avoidable delays and errors in the probate process, including a need to resubmit paperwork after initial mistakes. These setbacks were not always acknowledged, and the firm appeared quick to attribute delays solely to external factors. I found the invoicing opaque and inconsistent. One financial statement contained a significant discrepancy, which I had to raise and insist be checked. The response I received was dismissive, despite the seriousness of the issue. I also received what turned out to be incorrect advice regarding the sale of property and capital gains tax, which caused further confusion and delay. Much of the burden of clarifying legal and procedural issues fell to me. While I was included in communication when the firm needed input from me, my own questions were often met with vague responses or delayed replies. Eventually I was informed that I should no longer make direct contact, despite being a named beneficiary and closely involved in the process. The administration of the estate took 16 months and cost over £18,000. In my view, this was disproportionate to the complexity of the estate and the quality of service provided. After I posted a review reflecting this experience, the firm contacted me threatening legal action unless I removed it — rather than addressing the issues raised. These legal threats are ongoing. I’m sharing this account to help others make informed decisions and to highlight what I found to be a distressing and needlessly drawn-out process. At no point have I received an apology.
