Reviews
After having some issues with other solicitors, my friend put me in touch with a couple more (while I was on my way to work!) as a matter of urgency. Home Legal Direct called very quickly, and I spoke to Charlotte and she was very reassuring and professional, as was Michael who I spoke to a few hours ago - he was checking that everything was progressing as it should be and that I'm happy. They were both lovely and I'm confident it will all go smoothly. I'll leave another review at the end!
Having contacted Home Legal Direct with a solicitor issue, I spoke with Evelyn. She was extremely polite and sensitive to my query. She sort the relevant answer to my question and informed me promptly. She was perfect and will definitely contact her again if required. I highly recommend her.
Temporary review, pending completion, but on track for a 5 star. So far, the process has been very stress free and I feel well informed. I had reached out to them regarding something I wasn't sure if I was fully understanding of due to not clear language used by a 3rd party and I was given a thorough explanation of what I was asking in great and clear detail. Thank you Marie =]
This is a mixed review. On the one hand, I hadn't realised until after I had paid a large deposit that Home Legal Direct (HLD) don't actually provide conveyancing, so although they supplied me with a competitive quote online for the sale and purchase of a house, when I signed up, they placed me with 'PCS Legal', a firm of solicitors I had never heard of and knew nothing about. As I'd gone to the trouble of researching HLD, this was troubling because it wasn't explained during the initial quote and callback that HLD is actually just a broker and does not provide legal services. Also troubling was HLD's request for a large deposit (nearly £500) before anything had been done. I was asked to pay this over the phone and the salesperson said I had to supply my card details and the two-step verification number, which you are told never to do. I did ask for HLD's bank details so that I could pay the deposit securely by BACs but they refused. None of this gave me confidence that this was a legitimate firm, but I (perhaps stupidly) did as I was asked and paid the deposit over the phone. Over the next few days, I received numerous automated emails from PCS's portal, which was ok, but it would have been nice to have spoken to an actual person. The emails didn't really tell me much (most of them were either duplicates or blank) and I was asked for an additional payment when supplying my ID on the portal. A week later, there was still no Memorandum of Sale provided and no personal contact, just more automated emails from the portal. I decided at this point to request the return of my deposit under the 14-day cooling-off period because I did not feel confident that either HLD or PCS Legal were going to be right for me. This was despite a competitive quote. I was just not suited to all the automated emails and lack of explanation about what role HLD would even play now that they had assigned me to PCS Legal. I was also still feeling uncomfortable with the way the deposit was extracted from me. To be fair to HLD, they provided a partial refund straightaway and answered all my queries promptly and satisfactorily. My experience of their Customer Service was really good; I could not fault them as they were really helpful. As might be expected, HLD kept a proportion (£115) of my original deposit, but they also, without being prompted, corrected an error in the calculation in my favour. While it's true that they hadn't actually produced anything for me, it could have been a lot worse, and the refund seemed, if not generous, reasonable. I was fortunate to know about the 14-day cooling-off period. This was not mentioned by the salesperson or in HLD's Terms and Conditions (it should be). I guess if you are happy with communications being mostly electronic and ok with being allocated a random solicitor rather than researching one yourself, it seems legitimate, and pricewise good. It just wasn't the right service for me, and I think HLD should be more transparent about what service they are actually offering, because it isn't conveyancing. That said, my experience of their Customer Service was excellent.
I have nothing but praise for the team and especially for Michael, Charlotte and most recently Evelyn. They have always been extremely helpful and pleasant. Any issues I have had, they have endeavoured to resolve efficiently and quickly. They have made an otherwise very daunting task with regard to conveyancing procedures very much easier to cope with. They are a great asset to HLD, Thank you again, warmest regards Suzanne
