We sought mediation help from Richard a few years ago when trying to navigate our divorce. It was such a stressful experience I couldn’t bring myself to write about it at the time, but feel I owe it to other women to share my experience. Richard was very sympathetic at first and explained, several times, that his draw to divorce mediation was based in his own bad experience with two prior divorces. Though from here his bias shifted very obviously toward my husband, and he was very patronising toward me throughout. At one point he said he would explain what the word “capital” meant since I was just a housewife (I had to stop him and point out I had two degrees and knew what the word meant). From there he was very clearly on the side of my husband, and times he would ask a questions that concerned me but would usually look to my husband only for a response. Part of the mediation was to agree to a final financial settlement, and my husband and I had come to fair agreement before the meeting - but in the meeting Richard kept trying to knock down already agreed allowances for things like groceries (again only from my side - not my husbands column). Finally, it was my husband that had to intervene and say the kids will need something to eat here so let’s knock it off. He also gave legal advice that was inaccurate and in a mediation setting inappropriate and clearly meant to favour my husband. It was such a stressful and bad experience that by the second meeting I couldn’t face a third, and my husband agreed that he was causing more friction and problems than anything and was making the separation more difficult, which is not what you want in mediation. I would not recommend this solicitor for mediation assistance in a divorce.

Richard has been beyond helpful and I can't recommend him highly enough. He provided a thorough consultation on the same day I contacted his firm and his confident legal advice immediately calmed the anxieties I was feeling. Richard took the time to patiently and diligently answer all the questions I had, even when this went beyond our allotted time. I met Richard Buxton during my divorce, having had a bad experience with my previous solicitor firm. Meeting Richard in the middle of this turmoil was a breath of fresh air of someone who had my well-being on his mind. Richard offered his legal services, made sure he provided his highly experienced advice and support necessary, while allowing me to carry out the simple steps (for which the other firms would have charged many thousands of pounds) by myself with his guidance, and this way providing all the necessary legal help for a negligible cost. My divorce has been finalised just over half a year after the initial petition, in an amicable and satisfactory manner, and I am very glad I had the good luck and privilege to work with Richard.

Richard is a real find - I was searching for a local solicitor to help with writing a will for myself and my wife. I can’t praise Richard enough. He is not just incredibly knowledgable and professional, he really listens to you and genuinely wants to help. My case was related to a property dispute, and before I met Richard I had no hope my situation would ever be resolved. His calm and kind manner made this very stressful situation much more bearable, and a resolution was reached so much quicker than I could have ever expected.
