How long is a UK Student Dependent Visa issued for?

The duration of stay for a dependant visa aligns with the main applicant’s (student’s) visa. The maximum initial stay is three years. 

After five years in the UK, dependants may apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), subject to the main applicant also being eligible.

Under the revised rules for the UK Student Dependant Visa, you may be eligible to bring dependants to the UK if:

• You are a government-sponsored student starting a course lasting more than six months.
• You are a full-time student on a postgraduate course (RQF level 7 or above) lasting at least nine months.
• If your postgraduate course began after 1 January 2024, it must be either a PhD, another doctorate (RQF level 8), or a research-based higher degree.
